A Mathematical Modelling Approach for a Past-Dependent Prey-Predator System
A memory dependent prey-predator model incorporating Allee effect in prey is analysed. For a small and high values of memory rate, the dynamical changes in the prey and predator densities are demonstrated. The equilibria of the proposed model and the local stability analysis corresponding to each equilibrium are presented. The variables of prey and predator species with respect to memory rate are investigated and the existence of the Hopf bifurcation is shown. The analytical part of this paper is supported with detailed numerical simulations
Quasicrystal patterns in a neural field model
Doubly periodic patterns in planar neural field models have been extensively studied since the 1970s for their role in explaining geometric visual hallucinations. The study of activity patterns that lack translation invariance has received little, if any, attention. Here we show that a scalar neural field model with a translationally invariant kernel can support quasicrystal solutions and that these can be understood using many of the theoretical tools developed previously for materials science. Our approach is constructive in that we consider constraints on the nonlocal kernel describing interactions in the neural field that lead to the simultaneous excitation of two periodic spatial patterns with incommensurate wavelengths. The resulting kernel has a shape that is a modulation of a Mexican-hat kernel. In the neighborhood of the degenerate bifurcation of a homogeneous steady state, we use a Fourier amplitude approach to determine the value of a Lyapunov functional for various periodic and quasicrystal states. For some values of the parameters defining a translationally invariant synaptic kernel of the model, we find that quasicrystal states have the lowest value of the Lyapunov functional. We observe patterns of 12-fold, 10-fold, and 6-fold rotational symmetry that are stable, but none with 8-fold symmetry. We describe some of the visual hallucination patterns that would be perceived from these quasicrystal cortical patterns, making use of the well known inverse retinocortical map from visual neuroscience
Dynamics of a mathematical model of virus spreading incorporating the effect of a vaccine
The COVID-19 pandemic led to widespread interest in epidemiological models.
In this context the role of vaccination in influencing the spreading of the
disease is of particular interest. There has also been a lot of debate on the
role of non-pharmaceutical interventions such as the disinfection of surfaces.
We investigate a mathematical model for the spread of a disease which includes
both imperfect vaccination and infection due to virus in the environment. The
latter is studied with the help of two phenomenological models for the force of
infection. In one of these models we find that backward bifurcations take place
so that for some parameter values an endemic steady state exists although the
basic reproduction ratio is less than one. We also prove that in that
case there can exist more than one endemic steady state. In the other model all
generic transcritical bifurcations are forward bifurcations so that these
effects cannot occur. Thus we see that the occurrence of backward bifurcations,
which can be important for disease control strategies, is dependent on the
details of the function describing the force of infection. By means of
simulations the predictions of this model are compared with data for COVID-19
from Turkey. A sensitivity analysis is also carried out
Objective: It is well known that men loose bone density with aging and are at risk for osteoporosis. The risk factors for osteoporosis in men remain controversial. The objective of the study is to assess determinants of bone mineral density (BMD) in middle aged Turkish men. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. One-hundred and ninety-three aged men between 35-65 years were evaluated. Bone density was measured using dual-energy Xray absorptiometry (DEXA). Patients were interviewed using a questionnaire which included variables such as age, weight, height, formal education status, co-morbidity that might cause osteoporosis and as well as for malignancy or rheumatological or neurological diseases, and medications that affect bone metabolism (anticonvulsants, diuretics, thyroid hormone, corticosteroids, heparin, warfarin, methotrexate, and cyclosporine), smoking history, physical activity and calcium intake. Results: According to the lumbar BMD values, 33.7% of them were osteoporotic. According to the hip BMD values, only 13% of were within osteoporotic range. Regression analysis indicated that calcium and alcohol consumption, smoking history, testosterone and cholesterol levels were significant predictors of hip and lumbar bone mineral density. We found a negative correlation between bone loss and calcium, alcohol consumption, testosterone and cholesterol levels. A positive correlation was found between smoking history and osteoporosis. Conclusion: Smoking is one of the major causes of bone loss in Turkish males. We suggest that all of these parameters must be taken into account during the evaluation of diagnosis of osteoporotic patients
Birbirinden değerli araştırmalarla zenginleştik ve tarihe not düşmek
adına kültürel bellek çalışmalarına biz de katıldık.
Kültürel mirasın evrensel olduğu, oralı/buralı, sizden/bizden, uzak/yakın
ayırmadan, hepimizin olduğu fikrinden yola çıktık. Bizi biz yapan, toplumları
oluşturan, birleştiren kültürel belleğimizdir. Kimi zaman insan eliyle, cehaletle,
